About Scarlet RF
Scarlet RF is a minimally-invasive skin rejuvenation platform. It heats the epidermis (the upper skin layer) and the dermis (the lower skin layer) using radiofrequency energy and a tiny microneedle electrode system.
- Bipolar radiofrequency
- Directs heat deep into skin
- Electric current penetrates 0.5~3.5mm
- Uses fractional RF energy
How Radiofrequency Microneedling Works
Radiofrequency-assisted microneedling employs an electrical current that oscillates at millions of cycles per second. These vibrations cause collisions between charged molecules, resulting in heat energy being released. (1) The heat energy produced helps to remodel the target area by stimulating new collagen and elastin production. The result? Smoother, plumper, healthier-looking skin!
What Can Scarlet RF Treat?
Scarlet RF has three treatment modalities for comprehensive rejuvenation of the face and body.
- F Mode: skin tightening and lifting, acne, acne scars, double chin
- B Mode: neck wrinkles, arm sagging, body tightening
- L Mode: large pores, scars, stretch marks
What Are Exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny particles (extracellular vesicles) found in our cells. They range from 30 to 150 nm in diameter and have the ability to communicate with other cells in the body. (2) They carry information from one cell to another, providing nutrients, antioxidants, and other molecules that can help support healthy skin.
When exosomes are delivered to the skin via microneedling, they can help to boost the visible effects of RF treatments by increasing the production of collagen and elastin. This helps to improve the tone, texture, and overall health of the skin.
Benefits
Here are some benefits you can expect from a Scarlet RF with Exosomes treatment:
- Brighter, healthier skin
- Improved complexion and texture
- Reduced lines and wrinkles

- Enhanced overall radiance
Personal Consultation
At PSS, we know that every patient is unique and deserves individualized care. Before beginning any treatment plan, it’s important to have a one-on-one consultation. During the consultation, we will discuss your goals, evaluate your skin, and create a customized treatment plan for you. This will ensure that you get the best results possible and that your treatment is designed to achieve your desired outcome. If there are multiple areas of your face and body you wish to treat, please mention them so that we can incorporate them into your treatment plan. To book a personal consultation, call our office at 415-925-2880.
Preparation
Once you’ve decided to pursue a Scarlet RF with Exosomes treatment, there are several steps you can take to ensure the best possible results:
- Prior to your appointment, you should avoid any sun exposure or tanning.
- Avoid using retinol, alpha hydroxy acid, benzoyl peroxide, or any other harsh skin treatments for 10 days leading up to your treatment.
- Refrain from waxing, threading, tweezing, or bleaching the area to be treated.
- Refrain from taking aspirin, ibuprofen, omega 3 supplements, fish oil, vitamin E, and blood thinners for one week before your treatment.
It is imperative you do not opt for any chemical peeling or laser treatments in the months that precede your Scarlet RF treatment. We may advise patients prone to cold sores to take precautionary antiviral medications prior to, and after their Scarlet RF treatment. We also require patients to come to their appointment with no makeup on the area we will be treating.
Procedure
During the procedure, a trained aesthetic technician will use a combination of RF and microneedling to create tiny punctures in the skin. These punctures allow the RF energy to penetrate deep into the dermis layer of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This process helps to tighten the skin and reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. After the RF portion of the treatment, exosomes will be applied to the face. This helps accelerate the healing process, reduce inflammation, and stimulate collagen production.
Recovery & Results
Following the procedure, the treated area may experience some redness, swelling, and sensitivity. This usually subsides within a few hours. You may apply makeup after 24 hours, and ice packs may also be used to help manage any discomfort. You should avoid UV exposure for 48 hours (including tanning beds), and refrain from strenuous exercise for the first few days as well. In the following weeks, you’ll notice increased firmness, hydration, and overall improved skin tone and texture. You’ll also notice a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improved elasticity.
Corresponding Procedures at PSS
Contour TRL
Contour TRL is an advanced laser that targets multiple signs of aging by harnessing the power of two different laser wavelengths. Using proprietary light splitting optics, the Contour TRL delivers a combination of 1064nm and 1320nm wavelengths to treat the face, neck, and chest area. The 1064nm wavelength is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and scarring, while the 1320nm wavelength is used to target discoloration, sun damage, and textural irregularities.
BBL Photorejuvenation
BroadBand Light (BBL) is an advanced light-based technology that targets specific areas on the skin. The light is absorbed by the target tissue, stimulating the production of collagen, eliminating any dark spots, and evening out skin tone. This treatment is designed to address common skin concerns such as wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, rosacea, and broken capillaries. It can also help reduce redness and improve the overall texture of the skin.
Halo Laser
The Halo hybrid fractional laser has many advantages over other laser treatments. Because of its unique combination of wavelengths, it is much more precise than traditional lasers. It can be used on any skin type and can be tailored to treat each patient’s specific needs. The Halo laser also provides more comprehensive results than other lasers. It can target a variety of skin concerns, from wrinkles and uneven skin tone to acne scars and sun damage.
Chemical Peel
Chemical Peels are particularly effective for treating acne, age spots, wrinkles, fine lines, and scarring, as well as improving skin tone and texture.
- Light/Superficial Peel – This is the most gentle type of peel. It targets shallow wrinkles, mild discoloration, and uneven skin tone.
- Medium Peel – This type of peel penetrates deeper than a light peel and is most suitable for treating wrinkles, sun damage, and age spots.
- Deep Peel – This type of peel reaches the deepest layers of the skin and is recommended for treating deep wrinkles and severe sun damage.

FAQ
How can exosomes help my skin?
Exosomes are miniscule transporters of nutrients and information in cells. When exosomes are added to a treatment such as microneedling, they can increase the amount of collagen produced, helping patients achieve healthier, younger-looking skin.
Can I get RF microneedling if I have had laser skin rejuvenation?
Patients who have had invasive laser treatments must wait at least 3 months before getting RF microneedling.
Is Scarlet RF with Exosomes a painful treatment?
The treatment procedure itself is minimally-invasive and not painful. Your aesthetician will apply a numbing cream to the area prior to treatment to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
How long does the treatment take?
A Scarlet RF with Exosomes treatment typically takes 40-60 minutes.
How often should I get Scarlet RF with exosomes treatments?
The recommended frequency of treatment depends on individual goals and needs. Generally speaking, it’s recommended to undergo a series of treatments in order to achieve optimal results. We can provide more specific advice about the number of treatments you will need based on your individual case.
