Fat Cells Are Set From Birth
Fat cells: we are born with a certain number. That’s the bad news. You can shrink them (“losing weight”) but they don’t go away. And it is a LOT of work to lose one pound. We all know. 3500 calorie reduction; that’s what is necessary to lose one pound. So if you ran on the treadmill for an hour, for 6 days in a row, without changing other habits, in theory you’d lose a pound.
Problem is we often get hungrier with that kind of output. Lifting weights to build muscle can help with burning calories. But you can’t have a lackadaisical attitude towards weight lifting; it has got to hurt a little to do some good, and build some muscle. Lower intensity workouts are certainly beneficial for your health, both mind and body. (“Let’s go for a hike around the lake for an hour”… = 250 calories)
Hard to get the pounds off, or even stay neutral as the holiday season tempts us with high calorie treats everywhere. The average nationwide is a 10 – 13 lbs. weight gain over the holidays. Do the math on the calorie reduction to get out of THAT hole. (35000 calories??)
Weight Loss Doesn’t Guarantee Your Pants Fit Better
We in Marin, Napa and Sonoma county have the benefit of a stunning playground to get outside and work our bodies. But really changing the shape of your body is hard work. And sometimes, even with all that work, weight comes off where you don’t want it to (gaunt face) and stays in stubborn, bothersome areas.
Your belly. Your love handles. Your thighs. These are spots where if they can’t be reduced, at the very least, clothing does not fit well. Your favorite jeans are just a little uncomfortable. And maybe stretched a little too tight from the rear view. The waist on your work pants gets tight after lunch.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a little extra room to breathe but not have to go up a pant size? Think about the money saved by not reinventing your wardrobe! And come March with the vacation to the beach, you could look forward to getting on the beach, in your bikini or swim trunks.
Fat Cells Can Be Safely Frozen
A number of years ago two Harvard doctors observed a phenomenon. Kids would reduce their chubby cheeks when they ate a lot of popsicles. The freezing popsicle would actually freeze the fat in their cheeks. The fat cells would die off, and gradually be eliminated through natural elimination processes. They thought, if that’s true, couldn’t the theory be applied to other areas that could truly benefit from fat cell reduction and elimination?
Fat cells freeze at a lower temperature than skin and muscle cells, which allows this technology to really work. CoolSculpting was born; an innovative, nonsurgical way to reduce fat. The process is called Cryolipolysis®; freezing fat cells. The reduction per session is about 20 – 25% of the fat cells, so sometimes additional treatments are necessary.
The technology is proven, on the market (FDA approved in 2010) and successful. And the cool thing (no pun intended) is that fat cells, once dead and gone, do not come back. Once they are gone, they are gone. No excuse to eat bon bons all day, but a good excuse to get a slimmer, more svelte silhouette for the new year.
