Appetite Suppressants and Weight Loss
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Marin, San Francisco, Sonoma and Napa
PSS is committed to researching and providing the best options for weight loss strategies. We have a quiver of tools we rely on to address individual needs for our patients.
Some patients need guidance, but once on the program do just fine with coaching. Others have trouble following the diet but are able to ramp up their exercise and achieve some results. Others are perpetually hungry.
Our appetites and hunger impulses are funny things. We can go through a day eating a healthy diet, staying on track, feeling great. We may even be able to stretch that success to a week. But one day, the hunger comes roaring back, and even after a solid meal, you are still hungry. And willpower just can’t stop the overeating. We can say, suck it up, and this too will pass. But sometimes the hunger is such a distraction we focus on it.
Wouldn’t it be great to use another organ (your brain) to help tame your stomach? It is possible, and it does work.
About Appetite Suppressants
A recent study suggested that some people who struggle with healthy weight don’t have the same shut-off valve for satiety, or feeling full and satisfied. This problem moves the problem of weight loss into the realm of not willpower, but tricking the brain that does not work properly in regards to the normal, “I’m full” signal. At this point, Plastic Surgery Specialists have some prescription options that can help.
There are a number of different drugs that have been developed over the years to help with weight loss.
The more successful ones work on the brain’s perception of hunger. The drug stimulates the hypothalamus and signaling neurotransmitters to reduce appetite on a short-term basis.
We choose the best option for each patient. There is not one prescription right for everyone, so we have a number of formulations that work. Some of these drugs include benzphetamine, diethylpropion, mazindol, and phentermine.
How Can Appetite Suppressants Help?
One of the benefits of pharmaceutical help is the opportunity it gives you to change habits. When you consistently ask for a doggy bag after your meal because you are simply full, it gives you confidence that you can manage your hunger. After you start seeing results, that confidence builds. Your path becomes one of success. You feel better, look better, have fewer health problems, have less pain (lightening the load on your joints is incredibly helpful for back, hip and knee pain.) Dr. Poulos and Dr. Hvistendahl love seeing a patient on the path toward greater health and wellness.
They consistently see better outcomes when patients have a healthy lifestyle. Everyone is happier!
